For some years after World War II, Parker and Wickenburg High Schools exchanged a fire ax as a trophy to the winner of the annual football game between the two schools. The tradition ended in 1969. It was reborn with the 2010 homecoming game at Parker High School. Parker Fire Chief Johnny Rather (left) holds the new ax and firefighter Melvin Lee holds the original ax just before the start of the game Oct. 22. Wickenburg won, 7-0. Source: Parker Pioneer |
